EMA Global announced the opening of EMA Global China in Shenzhen, its sixth assistance centre and first on the Chinese mainland.
Since its founding in Singapore in 1991, EMA Global has delivered over three decades of medical assistance through its established assistance centres in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan, successfully conducting more than 12,000 missions worldwide.
The Shenzhen centre extends that footprint into the Greater Bay Area, carrying the same expertise, quality, and standards that define all EMA Global locations. EMA Global’s medical transport department holds dual EURAMI and CAMTS accreditation, representing two of the world’s most rigorous medical transport benchmarks.
Market Context and Strategic Rationale
The expansion was driven by direct client demand. Hong Kong insurers and cross-border enterprises sought a partner combining genuine mainland market knowledge, Cantonese and Mandarin fluency, and the operational rigour their policyholders depend on. Shenzhen, the commercial and logistical hub connecting Hong Kong with the mainland, was the deliberate choice.
For insurers and enterprises with exposure on both sides of the border, EMA Global China serves as that local ground partner, managing the entire cross-border process from end to end, handling regulatory clearances at checkpoints, fast-tracking medical handovers between mainland and Hong Kong facilities, and ensuring patient safety throughout every stage of cross-border transit.
Leadership and Operational Team
Led by Ivor Wai, Head of China, a 25-year industry veteran with a proven track record in regional medical assistance, the Shenzhen centre operates with a dedicated local medical team and eight operators, with infrastructure built to triple in capacity as demand grows. Ivor’s opening team was selected for technical capability and bilingual proficiency in Cantonese and Mandarin.
“The GBA cross-border space is uniquely complex. You need people who understand the system from the inside,” said Ivor. “Our team speaks the language, knows the hospitals, knows the checkpoints, and knows what it takes to move fast when a policyholder is in crisis.”
Dexter Tan, Deputy CEO of EMA Global, said: “Opening our Shenzhen office strategically in the Greater Bay Area cements our commitment to servicing the whole of China and growing with our clients. We deliver the same EMA Global brand quality and efficiency we are known for.”
Comprehensive Regional Services and Infrastructure
EMA Global China delivers a full suite of assistance services across the GBA and broader mainland China. The centre coordinates air ambulance and aeromedical evacuations through EMA Global’s 140-country network, manages roadside assistance for corporate fleets and individual policyholders, delivers home-based support, and provides end-to-end medical case management from first notification through to discharge and repatriation, each service line backed by a dedicated local medical team.
Partnership and Collaboration Opportunities
EMA Global China is open for insurer partnerships, corporate duty-of-care programmes, and TPA collaboration across the Greater Bay Area and broader mainland China. Partnership and media enquiries may be directed to the contact below.
